This paper presents a proposal for simple yet effective tools to measure the quality of optical vortex produced by SLM. The aim of this work is to help inexperienced users determine the quality of their optical vortex using objective criteria. While the specific requirements for optical vortex quality depend on the particular application, symmetry is generally preferred by users. To address this, we propose four independent quantities that can be calculated from a single-shot intensity distribution of an optical vortex. These quantities examine various features of the vortex such as contrast, eccentricity, dark-hollow to bright-ring ratio, and singular point position, and provide a value that can be used to compare different vortices produced by the same setup.
As part of my Optica Ambassador responsibilities, I will be giving two lectures. The first lecture will focus on the basics of laser beam shaping, while the second one will center on career planning and professional growth in academia.
